對於去中心化網絡的擁護者而言，Facebook 這次「出包」正好凸顯中心化系統的弊端，許多加密貨幣支持者也以這次事件為鑑，主張區塊鏈擁有去中心化、防止單點故障、可抵抗審查等特點，因此具備作為替代方案的潛力。 區塊鏈、加密貨幣自媒體作家 Allen Farrington 就發文 如果他們當初是在區塊鏈上建立 Facebook，它可能永遠都不會癱瘓。
專門推動數位人權的非營利組織 Access Now 在推特上 雖然這次事件似乎跟 DNS 有關，但它更像是一記警鐘，提醒每個人：「為何我們需要一個更加開放、去中心化、不受干擾並具有強大防禦能力的網路」。
