美國 SEC 目前在證券領域有很多權力，像有部分加密貨幣就在我們的管轄範圍之內，至於其他領域，尤其是大型交易所的比特幣交易，公眾目前還沒有得到真正的保護。
外媒指出，這是 Gary Gensler 迄今為止，針對「加密貨幣監管」最清晰的評論。過去幾個月來，市場人士一直猜測，曾在麻省理工講授數位資產課程的 Gary Gensler 上任後，美國 SEC 將對加密貨幣採取更寬鬆的立場。 不過，Gary Gensler 聲稱，若美國 SEC 、 CFTC 能提供更好的投資者保護政策，加密貨幣市場將獲益匪淺，他補充說，目前只有美國國會才有權解決這種監管問題，而不是讓美國 SEC 在他的領導下，超越職權範圍。他續稱目前，美國 SEC 和我們的姊妹機構美國 CFTC 當中，都沒有針對加密貨幣交易所的監管框架。這可能會（指投資者保護法案）灌輸極大的信心。目前，這些加密貨幣交易所周圍都沒有市場監管者，因此也就不存在針對加密貨幣欺詐、操縱的保護措施。 然而，Gary Gensler 在會上並未提及美國 SEC 是否打算批准比特幣 ETF，這是加密貨幣市場目前最關注的議題。
